The Nansa valley is located between the valleys of Liébana and Saja. A paradise for active, rural and ecological tourism with an important historical-artistic heritage. It was declared Cultural heritage of Cantabria, since it has a great landscape quality, due to its topographical characteristics of high peaks with several peaks exceeding 2000 meters of altitude, located in the Sierra de Pena Labra and the de Peña Sagra; extensive forests of indigenous trees, especially Oaks and beech trees, and low density population dedicated mostly to livestock.

There are four towns declared historic-artistic site, Tudanca, Carmona, Puebla Vieja of San Vicente de la Barquera and Bárcena Mayor, where all the features of traditional architecture are preserved.
